Privacy Policy

Template — not legal advice. This is placeholder boilerplate to wire up the page. Have it reviewed and customized by counsel before launch.

1. Who we are & what this covers

This Privacy Policy explains how Roast Reels (“Roast Reels,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use our websites, apps, and services (the “Service”). It applies to everyone who uses the Service — viewers, creators, and advertisers.

By using the Service you agree to this policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Service.

2. Information you provide

  • Account & profile: email, display name, password (hashed by our auth provider), role (creator/advertiser), and anything you add to your profile.
  • Content you create or upload: video clips, photos/selfies, audio, live camera or screen frames, the tags and prompts you enter, and the roasts generated from them.
  • Audience input: roast topics you submit, comments, ratings (“Heat”), and reports.
  • Advertiser data: brand details, ad creative and assets, campaign settings, and budgets.
  • Payments: card/billing details are collected and processed by our payment processor (Stripe) — we don’t store full card numbers.
  • Communications: messages you send us (support, partnerships, reports).

3. Information collected automatically

  • Usage data: the reels you view/create, features used, and interactions.
  • Device & log data: IP address, browser/device type, identifiers, timestamps, and error logs.
  • Approximate location derived from IP (we don’t collect precise GPS location).
  • Cookies and similar technologies (see “Cookies” below).

4. Information from third parties

If you sign in with a third-party provider (e.g., Google, Apple, Facebook, Discord, Twitch, X), we receive basic profile information from that provider, such as your name, email, and avatar, according to your settings with them.

5. How we use your information

  • Provide the Service — create and deliver your roasts, run live sessions and events, and operate features.
  • AI generation — process your media and text with AI to write commentary, analyze images/frames, and synthesize voice (see “AI processing”).
  • Safety & moderation — detect and prevent abuse, enforce our Terms, and review reported or flagged content.
  • Payments — process credits, purchases, and (where applicable) payouts.
  • Improve & personalize — understand usage, fix problems, and develop features.
  • Communicate — send service messages and, where permitted, updates you can opt out of.
  • Legal — comply with law and protect rights, safety, and property.

6. AI processing & subprocessors

Roasts are generated using third-party AI providers. To produce a roast we send the necessary inputs — such as an image/frame, a short clip reference, or your tags/topic — to these providers, which process it to return commentary, an analysis, or synthesized speech. We send only what’s needed for the feature you requested, and we instruct providers to handle it under their terms.

Audience-submitted topics and uploaded content are screened by automated moderation before and/or as they are processed.

7. How we share information

  • Service providers / subprocessors: hosting and database (Supabase), AI model and voice providers, payment processing (Stripe), live streaming (LiveKit), email, and analytics — each under contract and only as needed to run the Service.
  • Advertisers: we share aggregated/de-identified performance metrics. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not give advertisers your contact details.
  • At your direction: content you choose to publish or share is, by design, visible to others and may be posted to external platforms.
  • Legal & safety: when required by law or to protect users, the public, or our rights.
  • Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.

8. Public & shared content

Reels you publish, along with related comments, ratings, and roast topics, are public. Live sessions and scheduled events are visible to participants and, if streamed, to the destination’s audience. Don’t upload anything you wouldn’t want shared, and only upload media of other people with their consent.

9. Cookies & similar technologies

  • Essential: keep you signed in (including a session cookie scoped to our domain so one login works across our subdomains) and secure the Service.
  • Preferences: remember choices such as your light/dark theme.
  • Analytics (if enabled): help us understand and improve usage.
  • You can control cookies in your browser; disabling essential cookies may break sign-in.

10. Data retention

We keep information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, then for a reasonable period to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. You can delete content or your account; some records may persist in backups for a limited time.

11. Your rights & choices

You can access, update, or delete your account and content. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights — such as access, correction, deletion, portability, and objection (EEA/UK), or the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out of “sale”/“share” (California). We do not sell personal information. To exercise any right, contact us using the details below; we may need to verify your identity.

12. Security

We use technical and organizational measures to protect information, including encryption in transit and access controls. No system is perfectly secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security.

13. International transfers

We and our providers may process information in countries other than yours. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers.

14. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. A parent-gated experience for younger users is not currently available. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

15. Third-party platforms

When you share reels to YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, or other platforms, your activity there is governed by those platforms’ own privacy policies, not ours.

16. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We’ll post the new version with an updated date, and material changes may be highlighted in the Service.
